Ordering & Personalisation Guide

This guide explains how to personalise our badges, rosettes and sashes, and highlights a few practical tips to help your order turn out exactly as you expect.

While the process is straightforward, each product type has slightly different considerations.

BADGES and ROSETTES

Choose Your Wording

  • We don’t charge per word, but badges and rosette centres have a fixed printable area. The more wording you add, the smaller the text will need to be.
  • Text positioned near the top or bottom of a badge needs to be shorter due to the circular shape.
  • If you’re unsure what to include, take a look at our wording ideas guide for inspiration.

Select your Ribbon Colours

  • Please note that we laser print badges and centres, so we’re unable to match specific Pantone colours exactly.
  • You can choose from any of our standard badge or centre designs and customise the colours to suit your event.

Include an optional photo?

  • If you’d like to include a photograph, you can upload it when placing your order.
  • Higher-quality images produce the best results.
  • Please ensure the image is complete (for example, no cut-off heads, chins or ears), as we can only print what appears in the photo provided.

Proofing/Approval

  • For most standard designs, we do not send proofs in order to keep turnaround times as fast as possible.
  • If you supply your own finished artwork, a proof is usually unnecessary as we print exactly what is provided.
  • For rosettes, we offer an online preview tool so you can see how different ribbon colours work together.
  • There are so many possible colour combinations, that we’re unable to provide stock photos of every variation.

Common Mistakes to avoid - it's worth reading!

There are several common mistakes that are made.

  • Adding too much text to a badge or rosette centre, especially if the message needs to stand out.
  • Using images downloaded from the internet without permission — many logos and images are copyrighted. This will result in a cancelled order
  • Supplying artwork without checking spelling or legibility at the final printed size (rosette centres are 57mm).
  • Using dark text on dark backgrounds without outlining the text for contrast.
  • Cropping photographs into a circle before sending — images need to wrap around a bevelled surface, so we need the fulkl image for best results. You can always send a supplementary image with the desired cropping.

SASHES

Choosing Your Wording

  • There’s no strict limit on wording, but for best visibility there is an optimum viewing area when the sash is worn of about 50cm
  • Sashes are 100mm wide and typically accommodate one or two lines of text that can be read clearly at a distance.

Selecting Colours

  • Choose from our available sash colours, but bear in mind that dark text does not show clearly on dark ribbons such as black, navy or purple.

 Adding logos

  • We can add a logo to a sash, provided it is a single-colour design.
  • The logo colour must match the text colour.
  • We cannot print to register  or to specific Pantones

 Proofing/Approval

  • For straightforward text-only sashes, to avoid delays, proofs are not usually supplied .

Common Mistakes to avoid

  • Requesting specific fonts without checking that they are licensed for commercial use.
  • Overcrowding the sash with too much text.
